ARCHITECTURE PROJECTS

SHELTER+OUTREACH CENTER FOR VICTIMS OF DOMESTIC ABUSE AND TRAFFICKING

After studying ideas of disconnect and barriers, the goal of the project became to design a shelter that provided the victims with a sense of both    security and freedom. The outreach space is very fragile and transparent, while the sanctuaries are draped in a covering which symbolizes safety,    healing, and progress. The upper level allows the victims a space of tranquility, serenity and security to help them overcome and move forward from the   burdened lives they left behind.

HERALD SQUARE ELEVATED WALK

Many portions of Broadway in New York City  have been closed to traffic to allow for plazas, and Herald Square is no exception. The intersection of Herald Square in has many strengths and weaknesses.  An excess of pedestrian congestion intermingle with busy vehicular traffic damage the intersection, while green parks and retail surround it. My goal was to find a way to ease the stress of the site while enhancing and giving permanence to the positive aspects of the site. An elevated walkway floats above the streets giving more plaza space and restaurant possibilities to the public. A heavy structure rests on thin supports to give openess on the ground level and importance to the programming above. With framed viewings and direction flow being presented to the people above the ground floor.

JORDAN RIVER GARDENS:

RIPPLE COMPLEX

I designed a leisure place which includes a restaurant, lounge and hot pools. The complex aims to integrate natural elements with social activities, hoping to create a spark and a new experience which will give Jordan River Gardens a must see activity. The Lounge overlooks the adjacent park and river, allowing socialites to relax in an environment which is neither completely indoor nor outdoor.  The restaurant allows for three different eating experiences; the first is the most subdued where guests sit in booths with water fountains flowing around them, the second is where guests dine on a platform surrounded by water, and the most original dining experience is where guests dine with their feet in the water. The hot pools are the last activity which allow for an natural experience not found near Salt Lake City.

MINERS HOSPITAL
NON-PROFIT CENTER

The design is based on the idea of parallel paths. Access points create easy routes for workers, donors and clients to enter and exit, having the choice of interconnection or not. When the pathways inersect, the space becomes    emphasized within a communal setting. The curvilinear underground addition supports and emphasizes the historic Miners Hispital in a way which is not overwhelming or domineering.

SALT LAKE HIGHRISE

This project was a structure study on a highrise located in the heart of Salt Lake City. The spiraling form is a response to the urban wind of the city, while creating a fascinating form for the city skyline.

            PEI WANG

The sounds of Salt Lake City's Capital Theater and of the people who attend its shows are frozen in time within the installation. Sound waves are given form, resonating out of the wall of the theater, undulating through the site creating an instillation that would house informal performances.

SALT LAKE FILM CENTER

I aimed to use transparencies in materials and massing to differentiate the path from the destination. The transparent onyx slabs suggest lightness and movement, while the large solid cladding gives the mass the idea of solidity and a sense of final destination. With these characteristics, transparent layers effortlessly guide the wanderer into and through the theater, building up into the massive destination.
